Meet it with a smile and a Glad Heart!!!
Though this year has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride for me, I still would like to say that everything that happened within its 365 day tenure was worth it. Lessons were learned, friendships were defined, scoundrels were identified, minds were tested, hearts were won, and faith reinforced.
2003 for me ennobled not the pains and the difficulties in life, but the triumphs of the human spirit when facing adversities that come from just around the corner. I may sound too idealistic, but for those who at the very least know what I am or what I experienced, they would understand what I mean.
As we bid the passing year adieu, please, for goodness' sake, let us meet the new year with a smile and a glad heart. For the turning tide does not come in stride and seldom does it come forth with its arms ready to embrace everyone simultaneously.
Life is quick, with its twists and turns. You're okay one moment; the next you're on an operating table living under the knife. Learn to appreciate the simple and the true for within them, your humanity is defined and your questions put to rest.
Meet the New Year with a Smile and a Glad Heart and Live a Life saying "thank you" to the Divine.
Happy New Year, Everyone!

With a passing whim,
My thoughts drown in the bleakness of reality.
With a simple farewell,
I bid you all, my people, goodnight.
I will not earn the sleep of the just in this land we call home,
Or will I aspire for a glorious sunrise in the morrow.
I have not earned the right to dream the dream of kings and conquerors here;
I only know enough that it is time for me to wake up and go forth.
As my people's heroes dream endless scenes of phyrric victories,
Their children squander the precious gifts bestowed upon them.
Smile as death is so much sweeter than honey!
In a powder keg land ready to implode,
I have awakened and left all hope at death's door.
I have seen the light and I am not entering the Vestibule of the Inferno,
Rather, I have triumphantly found a way to back away from it!
As I, with a truly heavy heart, leave my trappings to march on to a new world ---
A world more fairer and just than this ---
I resign my faith with my people whom I will leave behind;
Because though I love my country and my homeland,
MY FELLOWMAN IS NOT WORTH DYING FOR.

There're three stories I want to share with you guys, which I heard so many years ago and found them over at an Internet site ( http://classics.mit.edu/Aesop/fab.html). These tales somewhat reflect the natural mindset of man, as a being filled with inconsistencies, wants, and natural villainy, and society as a whole where trust is not readily available and tyrants abound from every conceivable corner. Basically, it is all about vanity, power, and misplaced kindness and how these elements can become the key to one's fall. They are part of Aesop's Fables, but I still find them as relevant today as they were so many, many, many years ago.
A. The Dog and the Stream
Many years ago, there was a proud dog who was crossing a bridge over a stream with a piece of bone with meat in his mouth. While crossing, he noticed his own reflection in the water and took it for that of another dog, with a piece of bone double his own in size! Wanting that bone for his own, the dog immediately let go of his, and fiercely attacked the "other" dog to get his larger piece from him. Realizing his mistake as he saw the bone disappear in the stream, he pathetically grasped at the water, but it was too late, for out of his own greed, he lost his precious prize and fed it to the stream.
B. The Farmer and the Snake
One winter night a Farmer found a Snake shivering and almost frozen with cold. He felt compassion on the beast, and taking it up, placed it in his bosom for warmth. However, realizing the feeling of warmth, the Snake quickly revived, and resuming its natural instincts, bit its benefactor, inflicting a mortal wound. "Oh," gasped the Farmer with his dying breath, "I deserve this for taking pity on a scoundrel..."
C. The Kingdom of the Lion
The beasts of the field and forest had a Lion as their king. He wasn't wrathful, cruel, nor tyrannical, but just and gentle as a king could be. During his reign he made a royal proclamation for a general assembly of all the birds and beasts, and drew up guidelines for a universal league, in which the Wolf and the Lamb, the Panther and the Kid, the Tiger and the Stag, the Dog and the Hare, should live together in perfect peace and amity. The Hare said, "Oh, how I have longed to see this day, in which the weak shall take their place with impunity by the side of the strong." And after the Hare said this, he ran away for dear life.

She lies
she lies, and you like it.
her livid, almost bloodless skin eludes every fleck of inhibition you have shrouded
it must be the alcohol, you muttered to yourself
but despite your apprehension, you remain drawn to her scent
like a hungry vulture cognizant of the odor of a meat nearby
foul, yet arousing... vile, yet sweet …
repelling, yet charismatic…
a multitude of oxymorons indeed
you toil on dismissing the impulse of your flesh
but your efforts are futile
slowly, you surrender at the sight presented before you
curvaceous hips barely nuzzled in a skimpy black dress
your chest pounds, and you begin to quiver with excitement
and just before you could turn back,
she catches that glimmer in your eyes
right then, she knew you wanted her
making sure you'll give in to the carnal bait
she nears your car now -- each sway forging rhythmic sensuality
leaning forward on the window seat,
prodding milky-supple breasts, she whispers,
“take me”, she says, “even just for tonight”
you searched for any trace of modesty in her voice
but you found none
she’s had a lot of practice, you can tell
but that doesn’t cure you from your deepening ache
this is what you came here for
in this dim-lit alley, hypocrisy has no place.
she lies, and you like it
when she lies on a rented bed, you like it even more.

SHE-SAUCE, man! don't these barong-clad hoodlums have anything else to do than this?!!!
no wonder this country's heading face first in a warm heap of bull-crap.
i won't be surprised if the next president would be FPJ, while the separatists (rebels) and the bandits (abus) take the archipelago one province at a time, and the peso slumps further to obscurity and the unemployment rate reaches to high heaven.
for the uninitiated, a stern warning:
" ABANDON ALL HOPE ALL YE WHO WOULD DARE ENTER HERE."

tangkilikin na ang sariling atin
at kalimutan na ang payaso;
